ASRC Advocacy Training Series – Fall 2010

ASRC ADVOCACY TRAINING SERIES

FALL 2010

HOSTED BY THE AUTISM PROJECT

AT THE KENNEDY CENTER

This is our first time offering our series in Fairfield County. We have been doing this Advocacy Series at our Center for the past eight years. This year we have the support of a grant from the new Autism Center at Southern Connecticut State University and we have hosts like The Kennedy Center so it has enabled us to offer it in three locations around the state, instead of just the one.

Families are their child's best advocates but they need to be prepared to act on behalf of their child in productive ways. This includes understanding the nature of their child's disability, school district policies and procedures, basic principles of IDEA and what is considered to be best practice for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).

This is a unique opportunity to receive the knowledge and skills needed to advocate successfully for your child. This is a series designed specifically for parents, guardians or advocates.

Before making the decision to participate in this training series, please keep in mind that we ask that you make a full commitment. It is important that you attend most, if not all of the sessions, in order to fully benefit from the training.

To Participate:

The training sessions will be held Thursday mornings from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at The Kennedy Center in Trumbull (directions enclosed). It will start October 7th and run through December 9th. If you would like to attend the series, please fill out the registration form and return it to the Connecticut Autism Spectrum Resource Center by:

September 20th. The fee is: $120.00

There is limited space so first come first served.
